As a Matthew 25 church, this initiative is rooted in the parable of the sheep and the goats (Matthew 25:31-46), calls us to action in building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism, and eradicating systemic poverty.

Part of this call is a call to action. This past Sunday, Pastor Devon preached about another arm of service: Social Justice. As the gospel of Matthew reminds us in 25:40- “Then the king will reply to them, ‘I assure you that when you have done it for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you have done it for me.’

Friends, your action is needed. It is time to advocate for our neighbors who we are called to love. Our neighbors need our help. Our voices at Christians matter and it is time to act. Bread for the World has put out a call to action to urge Congress to “End the pause to foreign assistance and protect domestic nutrition programs.”

If you feel led, I would like to encourage you to communicate with our elected officials and work together to prevent people from going hungry in our backyard and across our world. If you would like to learn more about Bread for the World, please visit their website at www.bread.org. Our congregation has been using the resources from Bread for years as we have learned more about hunger, food insecurity, and food justice.
