Occasionally, you will receive emails that are titled “Keepin’ It Real with Pastor Devon.” These emails will be very specific in purpose, focused on something important happening at Wintergarden, and important for all to read.
Thanks for taking a few minutes to read and respond if asked.
Blessings, Pastor Devon
Dearest Wintergarden Faith Community-
Peace of Christ be with you this day and in the days to come.
Today we finished the second showing of the documentary 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture. When I first watched this documentary, I learned so much that I wasn’t even taught in seminary! From the time of watching this movie last October, I have wanted to watch it with you and learn together.
Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the movie with us and engage in conversation. The conversation that we had around table was beautiful. I am so grateful to how we are able to gather, have conversations, and learn together. Even when it is hard. Thank you for being you and for learning with me.
The movie is available to be seen until this evening. Here is the link to watch the movie. If you click on the link, it will take you to the website. Then click on the box that says, “Virtual Screening Tickets.” That will take you to another location for you to be able to pay to watch the movie. If you want to watch it and do not have the extra cash to spend, please text me and I’ll send you the link to help with that.
If you have any questions, please let me know. If you would like to have a one-on-one conversation about the movie or more conversations about what it means to be an affirming person and congregation.
We are going to begin a journey in February to learn more. Beginning on Sunday, February 18, we will begin a journey in worship to look at how we are called to build a bigger table. Following worship, everyone is invited to join for a deep dive into understanding the culture, context, and scripture connected to how the church has treated the LGBTQIA+ community. We will also offer this study on Wednesday evenings with a lite dinner at 5:30pm with the study to follow. The Wednesday evening study will begin 02/14/24. The flyer is attached to this email as well.
Friends, this is going to be a journey to learn. I feel everyone will be challenged in one way or another. My prayer is that we will all be willing to learn. To see how God will work in and through us to gain wisdom and deeper understanding of scripture and culture and context. Praying you will join us on this journey and that you will be open to learning more. Please know, this is a journey of learning for me too. And I always enjoy having more people to join me on journeys of learning. Thanks for being part of our faith community. Grateful for all of you!
